Russian, U.S. navy cooks to serve up sandwich styles

Russian and U.S. fleet cooks will demonstrate their skills at a sandwich-making contest to occur in the Far Eastern port of Vladivostok on Wednesday.

The competition, held in the Clever House shopping mall in downtown Vladivostok, is scheduled as part of the festivities for the Great Patriotic War Victory celebrations to occur in Vladivostok on May 9.

The contest will involve the best head cooks of Russia’s Pacific Fleet and the cooks from the U.S. destroyer Stethem which will arrive in the city on the day of the competition, a statement from Pacific Fleet said.

The event, organized by the Pacific Fleet, the Vladivostok-based Far Eastern Association of the Restaurateurs and Hoteliers with the assistance from the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok, is part of the project called ‘World’s Cuisine’ and aims to introduce the visitors to features of national cuisines and naval cooking traditions.

At the contest, the participants and visitors will also be treated to Russia’s traditional drinks and meals, news reports said.
