Vladivostok celebrates Family Day

Combined reports

Maternity houses and clinics in Vladivostok will present contests and games for pregnant women as part of the festivities to celebrate Family Day on Thursday, news reports said.

In the city’s Pervomaisky District, the maternity clinic will offer contests and games for expectant mothers, who will receive prizes and presents, as well as information from obstetricians and neonatologists, or baby doctors, on the conditions in the maturity house and nursing newborns.

The district’s maternity house will also hold the festive discharge of infants. A similar event will be carried out in the city’s Leninsky District, where seven couples will participate in the infants’ festive discharge.

The day’s celebrations will conclude with events held in Vladivostok’s Meridian cinema hall, where families expecting babies will compete in contests for best couple. They will also be able to watch a performance, take part in a quiz and receive advice from medical specialists.

According to statistics, in Primorye the average age of a woman giving birth is around 26.5 years, with each woman having one child on average. Last year, Primorye women gave birth to 22,500 children, which is almost 8 percent more than in 2006. The same increase was observed in the number of marriages. However, for every 1,000 marriages there are almost 600 divorces, statistics reports.

The statistics show that Primorye women are actively engaged in professional activities – nevertheless, in most families with children they also carry out the housekeeping duties. In every fifth family, it is the woman who is the family’s bread-winner.
